Two (2) pair, adult female Tlingit moccasins, undated
Scope and Contents
Two (2) pair of adult moccasins. The first pair is primarly made of soft, tanned animal hide. Around the ankle is a collar of white natural fur. Beneath the fur collar is an embellishment of fushcia and blue felt. Colorful glass beadwork in the form of natural flowers cover the top of of the foot portion. This pair are slip on moccasins and do not tie. Because these decorated with white fur, these would likely be worn by a female. The second pair is similar to the first, except beadwork adorns the ankle instead of felt. Also, the second pair differs from the first by having animal hide ties. They are decorated with white fur. Tlingit beadwork is a means of expressing individual and group identity.
