Scope and Contents

This collection includes two series. Series One, Caribbean superintendent, Church of God World Missions, includes five sub-series within it. Sub-series one: Caribbean superintendent correspondence, incoming sent to Luke Summers, or outgoing, sent by Luke Summers. Sub-series two: Caribbean superintendent reports ranging from ministerial population, personnel, property, etc. Sub-series three: statistics. Sub-series four: Caribbean superintendent financial records rangng from budget requests, aduitors, and propety value prices. Sub-series five: Caribbean superintendent photographs from multiple Caribbean countries. Series Two, Caribbean countries and territories, includes eleven sub-series in it. Sub-series one: Aruba, Curaçao. Sub-series two: Bahamas, Turks and Caicos. Sub-series three: Barbados. Sub-series four: Dominican Republic. Sub-series five: Guyana. Sub-series six: Haiti. Sub-series seven: Jamaica. Sub-series eight: Puerto Rico. Sub-series nine: St. Thomas. Sub-series ten: St. Vincent, St. Lucia. Sub-series eleven: Trinidad and Tobago.

Biographical / Historical

Born on April 18th, 1928, a native of Canada, as Luke Reginald Summers, Bishop Summers began his ministerial journey attending the Church of God Bible School in his home country. Later, he taught at the school one year and pastored one year before going as a missionary to the Virgin Islands in 1949. Summers went on to serve as missionary/youth director in Barbados, Nevis, St. Kitts, Dominican Republic, St. Martins, St. Lucia, Guyana, and Trinidad. He was then appointed as overseer of Dominica and Jamaica/Turks Islands. In 1970, World Missions appointed Luke as superintendent of the West Indies, a position he held until 1994. He served alongside other prominent Church of God World Mission leaders such as Reverend Lovell Cary, Reverend Stephen Mohammed, and Reverend J. Herbert Walker. Before his retirement, he was also coordinator of special events in the Caribbean. Luke Reginald Summers passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018, at his home on Sand Mountain, Alabama at age 90.
