Biographical / Historical
Samuel Clement Perry was born April 4, 1875. Very little is known about his early life. He became a prominent minister in the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) during its formative years. He united with the Church of God in 1909. Being enrolled as a freshman with Asbury College, he was the first minister in the denomination with any collegiate experience. He was very successful with church planting; establishing churches in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. He is also believed to be the first Pentecostal minister to preach in Cuba.
Perry was a bishop with the Church of God. He served in several capacities including pastor, state overseer, Council of Elders member, a member of the Editorial and Publications Board. In 1923, he was ordained with the General Council of the Assemblies of God but withdrew in 1934, reuniting with the Church of God until 1940. After that time, he ministered in his church based in Miami, Florida and published a periodical titled, A Call to Prayer.
Passing away in 1960, his obituary lists his spouse, Edna; 5 sons, 4 daughters, 25 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
