Biographical / Historical

Harold E. Cato (March 3, 1923-August 21, 1983) COG Ministerial File# 7625

Harold Eugene Cato was born March 3, 1923 in Atlanta, Georgia to Lindsey L. Cato and Mary E. (Brown) Cato. Cato was married to Dorothy Juanita Johnson (June 21, 1925-August 14, 2004). They are the parents of four children; David Cato, Phillip Randall Cato, Miriam Renee Preston, and Gail Jacobs.

Cato was first licensed to ministry as an evangelist on February 13, 1946 in the state of South Dakota. He received his Ordained Ministers credential on December 28, 1949 in the state of Georgia. The statistical data of his ministry reports 2459 sermons preached, 311 saved, 119 sanctified, 102 Spirit baptisms, 24 water baptisms, and 194 added to the church. During his ministry, he served as minister of music, associate pastor, pastor, district pastor of churches in North Carolina and California for 27 years. He also served the church as editor of Adult Sunday School Literature and a contributing writer for the Church of God Continuing Education Program.

Cato received his B.A. (English in 1963 from the University of North Carolina, M. Div. (Biblical Studies, Pastoral Psychology) in 1971 from Duke University School of Divinity. He served as professor of Northwest Bible College in Minot, North Dakota; West Coast Bible College in Fresno, California; Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee; North Carolina Summer Bible Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina; and Ministerial Enrichment Seminars in Kenley, North Carolina.

Cato deceased on August 21, 1983 and in buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, Tennessee.
