J. S. Llewellyn was born May 6, 1878 in Knoxville, Tennessee to parents Smith E. and Sarah E.J. (Tillison) Llewellyn. He was married to Mary Wells on June 4, 1901 in Knox County, Tennessee. They had five children; a daughter, Ruth E., and four sons, John Paul, Joseph Steed Jr., Todis A., and Cleo Ambrose.
Llewellyn was credentialed in 1912 and revoked October 31, 1928.
Llewellyn deceased on June 16, 1934 in Cleveland, Tennessee, and is interred at Fort Hill Cemetery.
