Biographical / Historical
Howard Jay Long was born in New York on September 9, 1932, to William Hugh and Hazel Lucille (Ross) Long. He was married to Marjorie Pyle, and they had one daughter. Later in life, he married Brenda K. Welch in Fort Myers, Florida.
Long was an evangelist with the Church of God, as well as a missionary to Japan where he oversaw the YWEA-constructed youth ministry center under the guidance of Overseer L. E. Heil durinig the mid-1960s.
Long passed away on December 20, 1981, and is buried in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
