R. (Ramon) Leonard Carroll (October 4, 1920 – January 26, 1972)

Ramon Leonard Carroll was born October 4, 1920 in Franklin County, Georgia to his parents Amer Jackson and Bertie B. (Cochran) Carroll. He was married to Evelyn Linus Morse, of Dunn, Louisiana on February 14, 1942. The Carroll’s had one son, Ramon Leonard Carroll Jr., M.D. Carroll was educated in the public school system of Greenville, South Carolina. He was a high school graduate and valedictorian of Parker High School class of 1938. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University. He earned his Master of Science degree after studying at Wofford College, Furman University, University of Chattanooga, and University of Tennessee. He received his Ed.D from University of Tennessee. He also received a Doctorate of Divinity from Berea Theological Seminary, South Africa. Carroll was converted October 7, 1934. During that year, he began his ministerial career as a general evangelist and youth leader from 1942-1944. He joined the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) in 1942. He was ordained in 1946. He pastored several churches; Anderson, Chester, Greer, and Lockhart in South Carolina, and Lenoir City in Tennessee. From 1952 until 1957, he was the president of Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee. He served as the Youth and Christian Education director of South Carolina. From 1964-1970, Carroll served on the Church of God Executive Committee. In 1970, he was elected as General Overseer of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) and served until his death in 1972. Carroll deceased on January 26, 1972 and is buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, South Carolina.

Evelyn Linus (Morse) Carroll was born February 7, 1923 in Richland Parish, Louisiana to Thomas Horace and Lucie Alice (Walker) Morse. Sister Carroll served faithfully with her husband in ministry until his death in January 1972, while serving as the General Overseer of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee).

Mrs. Carroll was president of the International Women's Ministries board for the Church of God when her husband passed. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother to six, great-grandmother to five and a longtime member of the North Cleveland Church of God.

Mrs. Carroll died May 2, 2006 in a nursing home in Jamestown, Tenn. She is buried with her husband in Greenville, South Carolina.
