The Joseph C. Hodges papers were received to Dixon Pentecostal Research Center on February 19, 2013. It consists of more than 300 manuscripts of his sermons preached during his personal ministry. Also included are personal and ministerial correspondence.

Joseph Carrol Hodges was born July 16, 1929 in Pittsylvania, Virginia to parents James Frank Hodges and Lena Elizabeth Tucker. He was married to Bessie Helen Asbury. They had two children; a son, Larry Hodges; and a daughter, Linda Lockwood. After the passing of his first wife, he was married to Sara Ruth Goodman.

Hodges was a credentialed minister in the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee). He received his evangelist’s certificate January 17, 1947, and earned the rank of Ordained Minister on August 11, 1954.

He served as the pastor of local congregations in Cookeville, Tennessee; Woodmore, Tennessee; Dyersburg, Tennessee, McMinnville, Tennessee; Van Dyke, Michigan; Taft, Florida; Akron, Ohio; Mount Airy, North Carolina; Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.

He served as the state Youth and Christian Education director of Michigan and Central Canada. He retired from ministry in Hixson, Tennessee.

Hodges passed on March 18, 2014 and is buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, Tennessee.
