Scope and Contents

This small collection of two folders in the small collections boxes includes a certificate of accomplishment, obituary information and ministry timeline, and celebration announcements. There are a couple letters of commendation from the Church of God Evangelism and Home Missions Department. It also contains over 60 photographs of James Rodgers's ministry through the years, especially on the reservations. Most of the photographs have identifying information on the rear.

Biographical / Historical

Born in 1941, James Rodgers was a long-term minister in the Church of God after serving for a short time in the ministry of the Congregational Holimess Movement. He served in Florida and Virginia as pastor to several churches, evangelist, and district overseer. In 1995 he founded Native American Ministries and began serving as field director for Southwest Indian Ministries within the Church of God Evangelism and Home Missions Department. He later served as Native American Ministries Coordinator for Operation Compassion and as Director of Native American Ministries of South Dakota. He raised money and supplies for missions and churches on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico and the Lakota Sioux Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. He also oversaw the renovation and building of numerous churches and parsonages at his pastorates and on the reservations. He was married to Sherron Duggar Rodgers and passed away in 2021 with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
