This collection includes content by and about J. W. Buckalew and his wife, Mattie Buckalew Rich. Included are artifacts, collected articles as a biography, information on his family and education, as well as a sermon and corresponding diary entries. The collection includes the certificate of J. W.'s ordination with the Church of God and the evangelist certificate of Mattie. Included are also an obituary, correspondence, and a Minister's Report for Mattie.

Biographical / Historical

John W. Buckalew, a notable evangelist in the Pentecostal movement and key figure of the early years of the Church of God, was born in Trion, GA, July 23, 1870 and lived to see 47 years, dying on January 24, 1918.

Nicknamed "Rough and Ready," Buckalew faced often violent opposition in his ministry. Despite this, Buckalew continued his ministry and aided in planting numerous churches.
