A folder consisting of revival schedules written by Morehead, as well as newspaper clippings telling of revival work under the leadership of Morehead.

Folder of sermon notes and outlines by Houston R. Morehead both typed and handwritten, some marked as not used by Morehead.

A folder of information, articles, and writings of Men's Fellowship, of which he was a prominent leader.

There are 3 seperate folders of correspondence sent and received by Morehead. They are seperated mostly by singular decades, with one exception. They are listed as from 1950s, 1960s, and 1970-80's.

There are 3 folders of photographs. One containing family photos of the Moreheads and their friends. One is ministry photos of Morehead on trips, dinners, and work settings with collegues and by himself. One is photos of Houston R. Morehead strictly by himself, both professional and casual.

There are 2 folders of objects, of which, one includes two of his copies of minutes from General Assemblies. The other contains a momento and a name tag pin. The pin being from a general assembly with Morehead's name on it. The other is a keepsake from Houston and Mabel's 50th Anniversary.

Biographical / Historical

Houston Rylan Morehead was born on November 3, 1905 in Corinth, Kentucky to Charles and Minerva Morehead. In 1925 Morehead was baptized in the Holy Spirit and called into ministry to preach. In 1929 he cosponsored a resolution at the General Assembly to birth a national youth organization. He married Mabel Day in 1931 and they went on to have five children: Richard, Daniel, Phillip, Larry, and Janice Lynn.

Before his death on June 2, 1988 in Cleveland, Tennessee, Morehead had an extensive ministerial career. Starting 1932, he pastored in Harrisburg, Illinois. In 1933, Morehead pastored in Christopher, Illinois. From 1934-36, he pastored Eighth Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee, and from 1936-38 he pastored at East Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tennessee. From 1938-40 he pastored Pratt City in Birmingham, Alabama, and starting in 1940 to 1942, Morehead took on the position of Overseer of Missouri. From 1942-44 he pastored Tremont Avenue in Greenville, South Carolina. Starting in 1944 to 1948 he served as Overseer of Michigan. In 1946, Morehead was elected to serve on the Executive Council, where he served cumulatively for 20 years. From 1948-50 he served as Overseer of South Carolina, and from 1950-52 Morehead served as General Secretary-Treasurer. From there, he served from 1952-56 as Assistant General Overseer for the Church of God. From 1956-58 he served as General Overseer for the Church of God. From 1958-62, he served as Overseer of Florida, and from 1962-66 as Overseer of Alabama. Lastly, from 1966-1970 he initiated and directed a national laymen's ministry.

Under his 2 years as General Overseer in 1956-58, the National Radio Broadcast, Forward in Faith, was begun, the youth ministries—Youth World Evangelism Appeal (YWEA) and Pioneers for Christ (PFC)—were developed, and some additional procedural changes such as moderating discussion in the General Council and in dicussion in the General Assembly.
