6 boxes including 50 personal daily journals from Lee College Music professor and Lee Singers director Dr. Jim Burns. In this collection there are unique insights into the life of staff and the campus of Lee college as a whole during his tenure. In his diaries he describes interactions with notable people such as Lee university Presidents, Faculty, Church Bishops, etc. There is also great detail into the trips of the ensemble and their performances.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Jim Burns was born in Texas in 1942. He completed two degrees at Lee College and received his Ph.D. in 1975. He then became a professor of Music at Lee College and worked there for 46 years. During this time he was dean of the School of Music, launched Lee's graduate program in music, and served as director for Lee Singers. He spent a brief stint at Oral Roberts University to be their interim head of music before returning to Lee shortly after. He was an avid traveler, whether that was leading tours with the Lee Singers, or teaching in another country over the summer with his wife, Doris. Dr. Burns also served at various churches in Cleveland during his 55 years of residence there, he held the position of music director at both North Cleveland Church of God and Cleveland First Methodist.
