East Coast Bible College collection
Scope and Contents
The materials in this collection are records from East Coast Bible College. The collection includes enrollment reports, Board of Directors and faculty minutes, Administrative Council and Board of Trustees minutes, East Coast campus newsletters, photographs, annuals, catalogs, and other information from the college. [It should be noted that “Board of Directors” and “Board of Trustees” both refer to the same board but it was called by different names in different academic years. These folders are contained in boxes 3, 4, 5, and 6.] SACS materials may be found in boxes 12, 13, and 14.
The collection is a strong resource for learning facts such as statistical and financial information about the college and also for learning about campus events, graduates, and other aspects of the college. There are numerous photographs of the college and various people associated with the college and campus events. These are housed in the photograph collection of the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center. There is also a photograph collection of the East Coast Bible College presidents. These photographs may be found in boxes 20 and 21. Most of these photographs are taken from the period of 1996 to 1999. Negatives of many of the photographs may be found in box 22.

Biographical / Historical
East Coast Bible College was opened on the Church of God campground near Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 12, 1976. Originally, the school was a three-year Bible Music Institute. George D. Voorhis, a pastor in North Carolina, was selected to serve the college as its first president. In October of 1977 the North Carolina Church of God State Council, serving as the official college board discussed expanding the curriculum of East Coast to a four-year full college program. A measure was passed and referred to the ministers of the state requesting that such a move be undertaken.
Approval to seek accreditation with the American Association of Bible Colleges was granted by the ministers on July 4, 1977. In the fall of 1978 at the meeting of the American Association of Bible Colleges, East Coast Bible College was accepted as an applicant for accreditation. Later the college was accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the Accreditation Association of Bible Colleges to award baccalaureate degrees.
The founding president of the college was Dr. George Voorhis, who served from 1976-1979. Dr. Henry J. Smith succeeded Dr. Voorhis and served from July 1979 until 1986. On August 2, 1986, Dr. Ronald D. Martin was elected by the Board of Directors to serve as president. A. Lawrence Leonhardt served from 1994-1996 followed by T. David Sustar until the school’s closing in 1999.

The materials were kept in much the same order as they were received, however, most records and minutes were removed from metal binders and placed into folders for archival preservation. Some date order discrepancies occur, however, this is in keeping with the order in which the collection was received by the DRC.
The materials in Series Two were received from the Lee University Business Office on July 9, 2019.
