Biographical / Historical

Flavius Josephus Lee was born July 18, 1875 in Polk County, Tennessee. His family moved to Bradley County and lived on a farm until he was fifteen years old, when they moved to Cleveland, Tennesseee. He worked with his father in carpentry and later became a pattern maker until he felt a call from God to ministry. He served as a pastor, state overseer, and various other positions until he became the second general overseer of the Church of God in 1923. He also served as superintendent of the Bible Training School that eventually was named after him as Lee College. He married Nora Geneva Million in 1896 and had two children until she passed away in good standing. He then married Eva Townsend in 1913 and had one child, Flavius Josephus, Jr. F. J.
