Scope and Contents

The William and Frances McCall collection consists of five series of materials that give insight to the 35-year missionary career of the couple. Series 1 includes various personal papers for both William and Frances. Series 2 includes conference and retreat materials. Series 3 includes the graduate course work of William McCall at Trinity University. Series 4 includes the personal materials related to the Seminario Latino Internacional, included course teaching materials. Series 5 includes a number of artifacts collected by the McCalls from throughout Latin America.

Biographical / Historical

Reverend William R. McCall and his wife served over 35 years in Church of God World Missions. William McCall was born on July 30, 1920 and died on September 8, 2012. His wife of over 60 years, Frances Jane Baker, was born on June 5, 1926 and passed away on March 13, 2006. William McCall was converted in Houston, Texas at an Assemblies of God on July 7, 1941. McCall met Frances at a local Church of God she attended. Soon after they met they were married and began their life together. He began in the ministry in 1943 while also working as a civilian, electric technician for the Army during World War II in San Antonio. Soon after he worked in the Navy and served in a variety of occupations. In 1946 McCall became a licenced minister in the Church of God. McCall earned an Associate’s Degree from Lee College, and Bachelor’s (1951) and Master’s (1959) degrees from Trinity University in San Antonio. He later received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Colegio Biblico Pentecostal de Puerto Rico. William and his wife Frances moved to Honduras where he served as the overseer from 1951 to 1953, then moving to western Guatemala to become overseer (1953–1959). During this tenure, McCall was ordained on March 12th, 1955. From 1959 until 1962, William served as overseer of central Guatemala. He was then promoted to the superintendency of Central America, also serving as the president of Panama Bible Training School (1962–1970). Their next posting was in Jamaica as overseer (1970–1974). During this time, eight new churches were set in order and 816 new members were added. Returning to Latin America to serve until retirement, McCall was the director of the International Latin Seminary in Panama (1974–1984) and Coordinator of Education for Central America (1984–1986).
