Reverend Hodges pastored numerous churches in several states, was a former State Youth Director in Michigan and conducted many revivals in foreign countries. At the time of his death he was attending Chattanooga Community Church of God in Hixson, Tennessee.

The Joseph C. Hodges papers were received to Dixon Pentecostal Research Center on February 19, 2013. It consists of more than 300 manuscripts of his sermons preached during his personal ministry. Also included are personal and ministerial correspondence.
